We’ve been helping others solve problems since 1876.

For over a century, our goal has been to simply help people find the right solutions to various problems. By 1950, we were well known for our expertise in fixing just about anything—including bicycles, keys and locks, mowers, and small machine parts.

From these humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a fully integrated solutions provider in the areas of electronic security, fire, video surveillance, access control, commercial doors and frames, overhead doors and garage doors, door hardware, keys, and locks.

We’ve been helping others solve problems since 1876.

Mulhaupts was founded in 1876 by Joseph Mulhaupt, and by 1950, we were well known for our expertise in fixing just about anything—including bicycles, keys and locks, mowers, and small machine parts.

From these humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a fully integrated solutions provider in the areas of security, fire, environmental monitoring, access control, commercial doors, overhead doors, and door hardware.

1876
Mulhaupts is founded by Joseph Mulhaupt, a new immigrant.
1950
We operated through the 1950s as a general fix-it shop, locksmith, mower repairer, and small parts machinist.
1957
Vincent Mulhaupt's sons, James and Harold Mulhaupt, join the company.
1968
James builds the first "Total Concept" store in the four-state area.
1972
Michael Gibson joins Mulhaupts.
1979
Douglas Mulhaupt joins Mulhaupts full time; he and Michael Gibson become shareholders.
1981
In 1981, realizing the change in mechanical security, Mulhaupts opens the Alarm Division.
1982
Contract Hardware department is opened.
1991
In 1991, Douglas Mulhaupt and Mike Gibson become sole shareholders.
2007
Douglas Mulhaupt's son, Nicholas Mulhaupt, joins the company.
2009
In 2009, Mulhaupts opens "Overhead Door" dealer for 16 Indiana counties.

Mulhaupts is locally headquartered in Lafayette, Indiana. Additionally, we have two other locations—Indianapolis, Indiana and Terre Haute, Indiana—that help us provide comprehensive services to those in the Indiana area.
